 Memorial Day American Beach, Florida May 25, 2003 Respectively let us humble ourselves to God almighty-some said the world was flat, then it was discovered it was round, and the circle can be squared?the shortest distance to one point is a straight line. Those who talk the talk do not walk the walk...  Our black academia is not the perfect role model as we grew as black American seeds we flowered in due season we became fruitful in spirit. Would not an anthropologist have great interest and skill to preserve a heritage such as the one of the oldest and only standing black historic beaches. Founded by her blood grandfather, she grew up and became the president of a black woman's college to be to the point she understood that her grandfather coming together with six other men in the tradition of small west African economic cooperative arrangements such as the Sou, where every member makes a weekly or monthly contribution to the communal pot and then when he or she is in need, receives the whole pot. What those men began out of wisdom and creativity grew into the Afro American Life Insurance Company, the first insurance company of any kind in Florida, the company eventually expanded beyond Florida into Alabama, Georgia and Texas, could not this same wisdom or the likes save the beach as black her grandfather founded...  Is it that feminism became more important than race pride and family heritage or rather race heritage for the beach became also a symbol for me and the world at large. Save we can see the effects of her father John Thomas Betsch, Sr. was the only child of a German brick mason and an African American woman, and Ziggy Marley son of Bob Marley was asked if his father was alive would he take his music in the direction music has gone today- Ziggy's reply was no, his father would keep to his message but Ziggy said since he is not here "we can do as we wish" this is indeed sad when our revolutionaries gave their blood life sweat and tears for our liberation and we even the sons and daughters of great men go the way of the beast...   As if we are not descendents of great men, the children of great men such as A. L. Lewis is not part but are apart from the average black person and even more so removed from that black person who grew up to understand himself first then breaking away from the world such as a true Rastafari, for he is in the world but not one with it, he let his hair grow natural, the barber makes no money from him, he lives natural, so the doctors makes little or no money from him etc., so Babylon falls a little each times a slave wakes up and becomes free...  We birth our own children you see we feed not the doctor, for the hospitals are dens of death not life such is the way of Babylon, power plant smoke stacks and Babylon scientist, create false clouds and acid rains and kills life, food is genetically engineered; there is only 16 percent oxygen we are breathing, the air is dieing and so are the people, AIDS, SARS, seeded clouds of name not what, and we sit and take this shit; can you remember when our country was freedom and we loved to live here, now we have become a country under marshal law, we are now like those countries George the burning Bush has liberated? Johnnetta B. Cole married a classmate majoring in economics and like her affiliated with the African studies program Herskovt's directed she said they both shared intellectual and political interest, he was white; she was already being mentored by a white anthropologist the man she married in 1968 was Robert Cole. You see Rastafari is the true anthropologist here... Please note that the book conversations straight talk with America's sister president is a work for anthropological studies her origins makes it so?  Many years ago and about six, this day Sunday, Memorial Day weekend there would be easily over two thousand black people here on Historic American Beach; since the American Beach wars. The beach is slowly being taken over by the big white powers which be, as a memorial to those great days of yonder years gone, I write this commentary, this story this news...  This today was a mere reminder of those times...I met with the beach lady today [Johnnetta's sister and great granddaughter of A.L. Lewis] she showed me a magazine with a recent article on her, she just loves being in the news "baby!"
